Hatchet Diorama Project

We have traveled with Brian as he faces many catastrophes, mistakes, and triumphs in Hatchet.  Last week, in groups, we drew general maps of the setting of Hatchet.  For your individual Diorama, you will be required to use your shoebox and any other materials to show a specific scene from the book.  (Click here for help/ideas on dioramas)

For the Diorama Project you will need

  • a descriptive title with page numbers of the specific scene [example: “Brian Crashes into the Lake” (26-30)]
  • A paragraph (4-8 sentences) summarizing what happens in that scene and what it shows us about Brian.  Be sure to mention any themes reflected in the scene.

***This paragraph must be written neatly in pen or typed and attached somewhere on the diorama.

  • a shoebox and any materials to show your scene

***Any visible part of the shoebox must be covered.

  • creativity.  Be creative!
  • a short 1-2 minute presentation explaining what scene you chose and displaying your project to the class.

The Diorama Project will be due Tuesday, April 20, 2010 and will be worth 30 points in the Projects portion of your grade.

The Odyssey Personal Journey Project

https://i0.wp.com/www.msanderson.net/images/odyssey_map.jpg

For this project, you will be taking the model of Odysseus’s odyssey and using it as a tool to reflect on your own life.

You will need to make a map (or other visual symbol) of your life’s journey.

It must have 7 events and a clearly-marked path.  The events must include

  • your birth,
  • a final prediction about your future,
  • and other important events in your life.

Each event must be accompanied by a visual (such as a picture, a magazine cut out, a drawing, etc).

You must also include a key with a brief explanation for why each event was important in your life.  The explanation does not need to be in complete sentences.

The final project must be on an A4 sheet of paper, in black or blue ink or typed, and must only be on one side.  Color and creativity are encouraged!

You will also need to explain your journey in a quick 1-2 minute presentation; so, be prepared.

  • Project: 30 points
  • Presentation: 5 points
  • Total: 35 points in the Papers/Projects section of your grade (30%).

Due:  Monday, March 29.

EDIT:  DUE DATE CHANGED TO TUESDAY, MARCH 30!
